Commonwealth Alliance for Rural Colleges adds Christendom College to Membership

The board of the Commonwealth Alliance for Rural Colleges (Alliance) voted to accept the application for membership from Christendom College at the spring meeting in Lynchburg. The Alliance has supported rural access institutions by
providing scholarships since 1965.

"Our mission is to provide our member institutions the resources to ensure students have access to an affordable, value-based education that prepares them for success in a global economy," said Chairman Adam Peachee." Our support benefits students from rural communities, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college and we are excited to add another college we can support”.

Members include Appalachian School of Law, Averett University, Bluefield University, Eastern Mennonite University, and Ferrum College. At the spring meeting, the board unanimously voted to admit Christendom College as a member.

Located in Front Royal, Christendom College is a Catholic liberal arts college, offering a time tested and rigorous education that develops the student’s intellect in a way that he graduates with the ability to master any subject-no matter how complex the vocational calling.

“It is a great blessing to be able to join with other like-minded institutions of higher education in Virginia through the Commonwealth Alliance for Rural Colleges,” says Christendom College President Dr. Timothy O’Donnell. “Partnering
with the Commonwealth Alliance for Rural Colleges creates another pipeline for students to be able to afford to attend Christendom. We look forward to working side-by-side to expand access to higher education across the state. The Alliance also gives its members the ability to keep small, private, rural institutions in full view to those open to supporting the aims of our institutions, colleges which do not look to public funding first. Christendom, for instance, does not accept educational settings that we know can change lives.”

The Commonwealth Alliance for Rural Colleges cultivates donors and board members committed to expanding access to higher education. The Alliance’s support comes from individuals, corporations, foundations, and trusts. Every dollar raised goes directly to the member schools for student support and is distributed according to an equitable funding formula based on enrollment. With the competitive financial landscape for higher education and the average package of financial assistance for member schools exceeding $22,000 per student, the Alliance acts as a critical link between donors wishing to support higher education for rural students and institutions. Since its inception, the Alliance has contributed over $26,000,000 toward educational attainment for generations of Virginians.
