The presidents of our colleges and universities and our staff and Board of Directors would like to gratefully acknowledge the generous gifts of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Beatty to The Virginia College Fund. Mr. Beatty joined the Board of Directors in 1991 and gave generously throughout his board tenure, enabling The Virginia College Fund to provide outstanding support to its member institutions. Guy passed away in 2013 and is greatly missed by all who knew him. Thank you Guy, Betty, and family for the wonderful support and Legacy Gift!

Frank Blocker

Frank Blocker

Mr. Frank Blocker, a lifelong resident of Norfolk and a distinguished philanthropist, served on the Board of Directors of The Virginia College Fund from 1987 until his death at the age of 93 on January 25, 2020. As a successful businessman, he owned Eastern Auto Distributors and founded the Blocker Foundation to support his many charitable causes.

All who knew him warmly remember Frank as a compassionate, humorous, and generous man tirelessly devoted to serving his community and supporting opportunities for young people. He is most associated with the Norfolk YMCA and Virginia Wesleyan University.

A lifelong Norfolk YMCA member himself, Frank served on the board and began an endowment. As a Virginia Wesleyan University board member he insured the school’s science labs kept pace with the times and initiated a joint program with the YMCA on the university campus.

Frank’s focus on education further manifested with his support of The Virginia College Fund and as a board member. He became Secretary-Treasurer for the nonprofit in 1991 and served for 13 years until 2002. His steadfast generosity over four decades helped scores of students overcome barriers to a college degree with donations over $110,000.00. Despite a stroke in 2004, Frank stayed attached as an energetic and enthusiastic board member.

Frank Blocker has been a major part of the Virginia College Fund over its 54 year, carving a legacy with his leadership and philanthropy that will be greatly missed.
