CARC Tour of Virginia
I spent part of last week touring Virginia on behalf of The Commonwealth Alliance for Rural Colleges! The trip began Wednesday at Eastern Mennonite University, where the Alliance presented President Susan Schultz Huxman with a check for $50,000 in funds from the S. Frank Blocker, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, which will enable more students from Hampton Roads to attend EMU! We even got to see EMU's marching band play in the streets of downtown Harrisonburg!
On Thursday CARC Special Project Manager Toni Clark, CARC Development Committee Chair Bruce Christian and I met with Christendom College. Executive VP Mark Rohlena, VP of Academic Affairs Dr. Greg Townsend, and Associate Professor of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Dr. Miriam Byers about the Gupton Initiative. Toni and I were invited to attend mass in Christendom College's beautiful new Chapel of Christ the King, and did so!
I was delighted to represent The Commonwealth Alliance for Rural Collegeswhen the University of VirginiaCenter for Politics awarded former Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder with the 2nd annual Defender of Democracy Award in the University's Rotunda Dome Room Friday afternoon.
The Virginia Tech Foundation, Inc. CEO and CARC Board Member the Hon. Elizabeth McClanahan honored me with an invitation to attend the Foundation's 75th Anniversary Gala at the Hotel Roanoke.
Pictures from each of these wonderful visits can be seen in this post!
